Financial Literacy and Inclusion

Gram Sathi is committed to promoting financial literacy and financial inclusion among rural communities, especially women, youth, and marginalized groups. To create financially aware and empowered communities, Gram Sathi is implementing the "Scale Up Centre for Financial Literacy" project in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Under this initiative, Gram Sathi works with the support of various sponsoring banks to strengthen financial awareness and inclusion among underserved communities. The project is being implemented across Bihar and Jharkhand, focusing on improving people's understanding of banking services, savings, digital financial transactions, insurance, pension schemes, and government financial services.

Through this initiative, Gram Sathi aims to build the capacity of individuals and communities to make informed financial decisions, access formal financial services, and achieve greater financial security.

Project Reach

Through the Scale Up Centre for Financial Literacy project supported by RBI and sponsoring banks, Gram Sathi is working towards creating financially empowered communities across Bihar and Jharkhand by increasing awareness, improving access to financial services, and promoting responsible financial behaviour.

So far, Gram Sathi has reached out to over 800,000 women, youth, and adults from low-income communities through its different activities.

Financial Literacy Training Program for Women — CreditAccess India Foundation (CAIF)

Gram Sathi has implemented a Financial Literacy Training Program for Women in partnership with CreditAccess India Foundation (CAIF) across eight districts of Bihar and Jharkhand. The initiative focused on strengthening women's knowledge and confidence in managing personal and household finances, including savings, banking services, responsible borrowing, insurance, pension, social security schemes, digital banking, and protection from financial fraud.

Through structured training sessions and community-based Nukkad Natak (street plays), the programme reached over 8,000 women and extended financial awareness to wider communities. The initiative aimed to promote informed financial decision-making, increase women's engagement with formal financial institutions, and strengthen their role in achieving financial security and independence.

Financial Literacy Awareness Program - NABARD

In 2015-16, Gram Sathi successfully organized the "Financial Literacy Awareness Program" with the support of NABARD. Under the program, 30 Gram Panchayats of the Chandan and Katoria blocks in Banka district in Bihar and 31 Gram Panchayats of the Poreyahat block in Godda district in Jharkhand were comprehensively covered.

People of these three blocks were well sensitized on the issue concerned through street plays, audio-visual aids, and meetings. Through this program, the beneficiaries were informed about the financial system of banks, its components and functions, and the need and benefits of being associated with the banks by having saving accounts, deposit accounts, or other government schemes with banks.

Awareness was also spread on Central Government's flagship financial schemes, such as the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, Prime Minister Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana, Prime Minister Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana besides other credit-linked schemes.
